The consumer expectancy of an 'internet only game' is a loophole for Ubisoft and any other live service company. A game without internet access has a consumer expected lifespan without end. But if a publisher shoehorns internet connectivity requirements into the product NOT NEEDED FOR THE CORE GAME TO FUNCTION but only to shove battlepasses, dlc and multiplayer racing into the game the publisher can just slap internet connectivity required on the box and set the lifespan expectancy to 10 years or so. The Crew DOES NOT NEED server access to run the core gameplay loop. People have already bypassed the internet login and are playing the game OFFLINE RIGHT NOW. An MMO like World of Warcraft can be bypassed and you can run your own server to play the game offline, but that requires all the NPC scripting and the gameplay loop to be hosted on your own created server. Now a company like Ubisoft could bypass the lifespan expectation and start running all their important game infrastructure on a server and hide behind that. But a game like WoW is sold as a core multiplayer experience, with content requiring groups of people to cooperate in multiplayer, whereas the crew is basically a single player racing game with AI that shoehorned the online connectivity in only to see other people drive around and perform the same basic multiplayer races people have seen in non live service games for 30 years.

An argument for the delisted games argument is that at least with a delisted game you might be able to find a rom or a torrent. Or someone like gog games could get the rights and sell it. Point being a game isn’t dead even if you can’t buy it anymore. A game that you can’t play is just literally dead

The time a service should go is "as long as copyright is applied" at least, because if someone is claiming copyrights protect them, they insist it is still worth "something", otherwise nothing would be lost, and therefore no harm and no foul. DMCA and similar do not apply if there is no copyrights.

Another thing against the Eula argument is if you don’t agree to the Eula then you can’t play the game so then what’s the point of agreeing to the Eula

Might as well start asking expiration date from game developers prior to purchasing any game or software. Would love to get some weird answers from support staff, who are most likely wondering like "what do you mean by that?".

Isn’t the “internet required” indicator on a game’s packaging or system reqs list totally pointless for a game with single player content? The “internet required” tag refers specifically to the part of the game’s functionality they ultimately intend to break, doesn’t it?

as much as you repeatedly say that you don't want to be a lawyer, you'd make the best damn videogame lawyer, lawyer, your consideration of details, personal relation to games, and emotional mastery, are an excellent combination for argumentation and even though videogames are huge, this stuff makes it apparent that videogame legality is still a field being pioneered, debated, figured out, and the world needs your voice and voices like yours to determine the evolution of videogaming

Going to the EU to try and preserve history is like going to the fox and asking it to ensure the safety of the chicken coup. I'm not sure exactly how you thought this would go, maybe this was an act of desperation? All you can really do now is back up as much as possible.

It is Interesting Times in the EU. A report on the progress of a campaign about the finer points of trade law in the context of video games should not contain a sentence like "and then the parliament was dissolved." Does anyone tackle this from the cultural angle yet? Consumer rights is the obvious lever, but with video games now being considered art, there may be institutions interested in the preservation of cultural artifacts.
